Box Office Manager Job Description

Job title: Box Office Manager

Part-time: 20 hours/week

Flexible Schedule: Days, Nights, and Weekends Often Required

Hourly: $14.50-$17.00/hour commensurate with experience

Benefits: 2 weeks paid vacation/year

Reports to: Executive Director

Job Overview​

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Box Office Manager supervises, organizes, and manages all Box Office operations at Amelia Community Theatre (ACT) in support of the mission of ACT. The Box Office Manager will work in collaboration with other staff and will train volunteers. The Box Office is open Wednesday - Friday 11am - 1pm and opens 90 minutes before each show.

 

Duties and responsibilities

Attend the Box Office during box office hours.

    • Present for daytime box office hours regularly Wednesday - Friday, 11am-1pm.

    • Present for showtime box office hours regularly 90 minutes prior to a performance.

  • Return all Box Office and ticketing inquiries or orders in a timely manner.

  • Answer phone calls, assist patrons, take messages, receive deliveries, check out scripts, check general theatre emails, and let volunteers into the building.

  • Control and sell admission to all ticketed events.

  • Manage all monies and credit card sales.

  • Prepare box office statements and settlements.

  • Update box office database with all new patron information.

  • Schedule all box office volunteers for work shifts.

  • Prepare all materials for onsite box office needs.

  • Handle all box office issues and day-to-day sales.

  • Ensure all box office volunteers all are comfortable and competent with the box office software.

  • Provide training to box office volunteers on box office software as needed.

  • Stay current on all box office software modifications and coordinate with box office software provider on all issues and concerns.

  • Assist with mailings.

  • Assist with membership/season ticket drives.

  • Assist the Executive Director with special projects or general office work such as filing, making copies, etc as needed.

  • Set a good example for good customer service.

  • Perform other duties or tasks as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated capability to conduct one’s self in a calm and professional demeanor when dealing with the public and/or with difficult situations.

  • Attention to detail and organization.

  • Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff and volunteers.

  • Team player, friendly, enthusiastic and a strong eagerness to learn.

  • Have a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.

  • Customer Service Professionalism.

 

Education and Experience

  • Computer literacy required.

  • Two years of professional work experience required

  • Experience with ticketing software a plus.

  • Front-of-house experience a plus.

  • Marketing and social media experience a plus.

 

Working Conditions

Physical Demands

  • Lifting/carrying up to 15 lbs.

  • Sitting for 3-4 hours at a time
