Who We Are
The tradition of community theaters offering high-quality entertainment is a treasured part of small-town America. Once upon a time, on a small island, there was a creative group of people who had a vision of "putting the community on stage." Opened in 1981, Amelia Community Theatre has welcomed thousands to its stage and in its audiences.
ACT's long history of community and member support resulted in a successful fund-raising effort led by Graham Thomas that made the dream of a new theatre a reality. Built on land the group owned, the architect carefully used the available land, incorporating the original building to create a campus for performing arts. Both the Main Stage and the Studio209 theatre are used for various artistic and social events.
The Amelia Community Theatre opened its beautiful new facility on Thursday, April 8, 2010, with "The Pirates of Penzance." This year marks our 31st season.
In Summer of 2012, ACT recieved the Twink Lynch Award at the national convention of the American Association of Community Theatres. This award recognizes ACT for successfully completing major steps in new directions, expanding services to our community, and moving to the next level of organizational development. Managing Director Linda McClane will be receiving a Distinguished Merit Award which is presented to individuals and organizations in recognition of contributions made to promote and develop the highest standards for community theatre.
